Oxygen regulation decreases fuel consumption

J. Dittrich Elektronic fault-proof oxygen measuring systems measure the concentration of oxygen in the waste gas of furnaces, optimize combustion with the help of a coupled controller and, consequently, decrease fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

By connecting intelligent hardware to an oxygen sensor based on zirconium dioxide, it was possible for the first time to design an oxygen measuring system that monitors its own functions during operation and can be calibrated electrically without personnel or reference gas.

Therefore, the oxygen measuring system is fault-proof (certified by the German Technical Inspectorate - TÜV - for MF010-O for the first time).

This means that, for reasons of safety, specified and fuel-consuming excess air can be minimized during combustion. Thus, the oxygen measuring system decreases the oxygen content during combustion by about 1.5% on average.

A compact design - the measured values are evaluated and output by integrated devices - make oxygen regulation profitable for medium-sized and small furnaces. The investment will pay already after a few months.

In a furnace with 10 MW and 5,000 operating hours per year, the consumption of natural gas is reduced 18,126 m3 per year, the fuel costs (at 2.5 ct per KW) by 4,530 € and the CO2 emissions by 41,743 kg.
